Like you said I would put myself into situations such as I was a barman and I’d just ask customers questions such as “how’s your day been so far” and then the conversation creates itself so the more I spoke to people the better it got. When talking more I also learnt what words/sounds would make me stutter so I would remember ways of getting a sentence out without saying those words but using other words which have the same meaning, kind of like a cheat code if that makes sense. I think talking to loved ones won’t improve your stutter because you’re always more comfortable around them which makes you stutter as you’re relaxed, that’s how my stutter works anyway. I’d say I have confidence in my stutter now because I am a bar manager and I have to talk a lot say in meetings or with my staff and I don’t stutter as much but I think that is all because of forcing myself to talk to people. Sorry if it isn’t the best advice but please let me know if there’s any other way that I can help 🙂
