Trying to avoid painting this as an "Oppression Olympics," who-has-it-worse competition, the people in the film are great communicators and very coherent speakers. And that's not to say they haven't done a ton of work to get to that level. But there are lots of us who, if you stuck in front of a camera, couldn't get two sentences out in the time you booked for shooting. I only say it's disheartening because I often *want* to help advocate for people who stutter, I often *want* to help build a community for those who feel isolated, I often *want* to order exactly what I want every time-- all those things that came with such difficulty to those in the film, *but who actually got to do them*. Again, huge props to all of them. But with a more severe stutter, it's just draining. I get anxious just thinking about going to a support group or being a guest on a podcast or calling my congressman. I'm very proud of the people in the film who have the courage and drive to do those things. There's lots of us on the sidelines I'd love to see acknowledged in some way, I guess?, who are relying on them to be our voice too. Whether it's fair to put the whole community on their shoulders, I don't know... but as community advocates, maybe you signed up for that, too. :)
