My university also offered free services conducted by graduate students supervised by SLPs. I found it helpful, and my therapist and I had a great connection, so I really felt like she cared. I still stutter severely, but I got more out of it on the mental/emotion side such as tools for coping with the related anxiety, tools to change your mindset around stuttering, tools to boost confidence in school-related situations like presentations. The only semi-weird thing I experienced was that near the end of my time in therapy I found out that other students (who weren’t my therapist) had access to information from my sessions to help them learn also. If that bothers you, I would just clarify at the beginning who gets access to your information. I would just say, as with any speech therapy, don’t go into it expecting a cure, but it can really help in other ways.
