Create space. You do that by doing something together that doesn’t require talking. It’s about relationship building and letting him know you’re cool with him. What subject are you tutoring him in? I can give concrete suggestions if you give me a theme. - Solve (easy) math problems together. - Build a bridge with toothpicks and marshmallows without talking - Box game. Either words from a list and you the word by reading the definition. Or go in alphabetical order with one syllable words. (I can explain this game in more detail if you’re interested) Listen when he talks and if you’re calm and patient, he’ll feel it. If you can remove the a pressure to talk and make it easy and comfortable, it can happen.
