The focus on fluency just let to me trying to fight against something that's a part of me I can't change. We can't change that we stutter, but we can change whether or not it's a struggle or how painful it is. What has helped me is realizing I can stutter without struggle. If I don't struggle, I don't really feel any of that emotional burden. So working on not avoiding or trying to work around it my stutter but instead, face it head on and ultimately accept it is what helped me. The hardest part of this is finding a therapist with enough understanding and ability to set you on a plan for success.
