Stuttering is a neurological problem where there is a disruption between the brain and the speech mechanism. In many ways stuttering is similar to bad vision and bad hearing in that all are physical defects. No one asks if you know someone who has been cured of bad vision/hearing because there are prosthetics (eyeglasses/hearing aids) which ameliorate the problem. Similarly you can not really expect to be cured of stuttering but there are prosthetics (Delayed Auditory Feedback and the Edinburgh Masker) which greatly ameliorate the problem. There are also programs where you do not hear your own voice but hear a slightly different sound (McGuire, etc) which help many people. The above are not a cure but make stuttering into a minor problem we can deal with.
