“Is Stuttering a Disability?” I was asked this question by my programs director. I am a Medical Lab Technology student and now we are interviewing for internship positions. Since my GPA is one of the highest I got first pick at the best hospital in town. I interviewed there but unfortunately did not get it. So my Program director called me in and basically said I didn’t get the internship position because I stutter. I was so embarrassed/upset. Having a stutter as a 20 year old is bad enough. But now it may affect my ability to move forward in the program. I’ve gone through speech therapy and it’s gotten A LOT better but of course when I’m nervous or stressed I tend to stutter a lot. So I guess my question is: is stuttering a disability? I’ve never thought of it as one.
