To be honest, I wouldn't have said anything unless they specifically mentioned their stutter and mentioned that it bothered them or that they'd wish to do something about it. I've met quite a number of people who stutter but really don't mind it. Then I've met the opposite of others who hate themselves for stuttering. So I would try not to assume one's feelings about their own stutter.
