For me personally in a lot of my job interviews (including my current job that I have worked at for 8 years) I tell them right away that I stutter. This instantly takes the fear and edge off. No judgment of course that you didn't pick up the phone, but this could be something you could try to use in the future. I hope everything works out OK for you.
