That's some good rationalization to get out of this unfamiliar and scary assignment ;-). How can you expect us to do certain things if you aren't willing to walk that path yourself, just for the empathetic experience? But if you want an answer to your question, you're doing an assignment to better understand the experiences of people who stutter in order to be a more effective clinician. If you're worried about anyone thinking you're being offensive, that is another great empathetic experience as most stutterers negatively "mind read" and the fact of the matter is no one knows what anyone else is thinking. This is something that you will likely have to help with and having such an experience is invaluable. But no, it's not offensive you're doing this to learn, not to be offensive. If you're studying at UMD, Prof S. knows what she's talking about so just do the assignment.
