Has anyone tried Delayed auditory feedback as a means to prevent stuttering? Hey guys, fellow stutterer here who just joined the subreddit. Over this past year i have been trying a form of experimental treatment per se, known for short as DAF. The way it works is that you plug in your headphones, set a delay on your speech from anywhere between 1 millisecond to 1000 milliseconds, and in theory this delay between when you speak and when you hear urself speak, forces you to slow down your speech. Now, this works really good for some, and not at all for others. My particular case of stuttering is categorized as runny speech. I know exactly what to say yet i struggle pacing my speech. Its as if the words hit me at 100 mph and i just cant slow it down, resulting in a mumbly frantic rant of words. Some of you might also find yourself with the same problem, in which case i think you should give this a go. VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: No, this isnt gonna cure your stuttering at all. It only works when the app is active and you'll still stutter just as bad without the app. It will feel very odd in the beginning but try it for a couple of conversations with yourself, and with a couple conversations with some family members, i think you'll find it extremely fascinating. The application i have been using is called DAF pro but there are several others that do the same thing. You should be able to find it on the apple store for free. Not sure if its available on android. Set the delay time to approx 50ms and adjust it from there on to your own liking. NOTE: it only works with wired headphones. You will also have the ability to toggle the change in pitch, microphone sensitivity and background noise. I suggest you set these three to the middle of the toggle spectrum and re adjust to your liking as you get used to the app. I hope you guys try it out and let me know how it works for you! if there are any questions i will be replying to every single one of you. Stay strong my people, Love!
