Forty years for me. I don't let it define who I am, like I did when I was younger. I faced my fears of talking - Toastmasters really helped but it took 1-2 years of doing speeches to get comfortable enough to talk without fear. I still stutter but it's at a point where I don't really care. That comfort level makes it so other people I met don't care either. It's just an attitude of "I stutter, move on, nothing to see here"
