I just wanted to explain my answer to the question about when I first realized I had a stutter. My parents actually noticed my stutter when I was about four. I saw a speech therapist that only referred to it as “a speech disfluency”. I was too young to understand the significance of this and so I never really realized what was going on. And at the time, my stutter was mostly blocks rather than the repetitions that are more easily recognized by the lay person. So I grew up never really seeing myself as a stutterer. It wasn’t until my freshman year in college, when I had a disastrous attempt at a Speech class that I started thinking about the therapist again. I saw another therapist who outright described my symptoms as being a stutter. I want to mention this because I wasn’t sure about the best answer for the survey. But I decided that the spirit of the question was about when *I* first had a good idea of the problem. So I answered based on my own personal realization rather than when my parents recognized the problem.
