I definitely agree with you that medication is not for everybody. I just know from my personal experience that I tried counseling, speech therapy and so many herbal supplements that did nothing for me over the years when I was younger which did not help much. There have been several recent studies using anti-psychotic medications that seem to improve speech fluency in people with childhood onset stuttering. One study: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04492956?cond=Stutter&draw=4&rank=28 Certain medications that are used for Tourette's and Bipolar Disorder have been shown to improve fluency and are still being investigated in stage 2/3 trials. Please look up Dr. Maguire's research and history of stuttering research as his explanations are much better than what I can say here. I know of like 3-4 people including myself that have used Caplyta and shown that their speech went to almost perfect fluency. I have been on the medication for over a year now and my career and personal life has sky rocketed. I can attend big meetings to give presentations, speak in public crowds and have like no thoughts about stuttering which is insanely weird. I would love to have a conversation with you on the phone or any other stutterer to just talk through all of this. Hopefully I was helpful in some way!
