The part about parents and teachers telling the kids they don't have to talk hits me very hard. I was this exact kid, never had to talk to anybody if I didn't want to, and now at 20 years old I'm realizing this has really fucked me up because I have no idea how to even carry on a conversation with somebody. Getting that experience at a young age is unbelievably important.
