To me, it's the fact that the /condition/ stuttering and the action of stuttering have the same name that gets confusing. There would a lot less "Oh, everybody stutters sometimes!" if the disorder had a clearer name. I've spoken to one too many people who don't even know stuttering is a condition that exists in the first place.
