Humour me: what’s ur most insufferable stuttering experience with a stranger til date that you will never forget (This is by no means to be offensive) Let me start with my story that has stayed with me and I honestly laugh about it thinking back on it. Ok so, I was out for a dinner with my family celebrating my mums birthday. And it was a pub. Relatively low key in a small town. I was probably 16. And I went up to the bar to get my mums cake that we were surprising her with, and the guy asked me in a friendly way ‘who’s the birthday for?’ And I blocked so badly going to say ‘my mum’ it lasted for about 30 whole seconds, it was THE LONGEST 30 SECONDS OF MY LIFE (AND HIS) and he was looking away for that whole time, not understanding what the hell was going on. And instead of pushing through it, after that 30 seconds I just GAVE UP AND WALKED AWAY. And I went back and sat down on the table with my family, just frozen in absolute embarrassment. 😂 i did not tell them. I just pretended nothing happened. This experience honestly taught me to push through it… even if it’s uncomfortable for both parties. Cos it’s much better than just giving up. 🥲 I’d love to hear some of your stories. Like I said, I look back at this and laugh but cringe at the same time. I feel like I’ve come a long way since then. I’ve learnt so much and trying my best to embrace myself rather than sink into a depression cos it is so easy to. Bettering ourselves every day is a challenge, but it is possible. 🩵
