1. Covering my mouth momentarily (like half a second) and continue talking. 2. During public speeches with a group of people who do not know me, I say the following “Morning everyone, I am Sergeant BrickToMyFace and I have a tendency to stutter. Go ahead and chuckle when it happens so I can laugh along with you, I will die inside but it will allow me to press on.” This usually breaks the tension for me if I stutter. 3. Try not to use contractions while speaking, it makes you very aware of what you are (you’re) saying. For some reason, my brain maps everything out when not using contractions.. as opposed to wanting to flood the information out all at once. 4. This is not the best advice for people in civilian jobs, but a good controlled seethe keeps me from stuttering. 5. Not caring. This is the most difficult, but I really do not care too much if it happens. Being married helps, being over 35 helps, and having a secure job helps.
