The reason why people think it's curable is because we are a vulnerable population, and I can not tell you how many offers I get to "cure" my stutter for $700 or other ridiculous amounts. My stutter came about at the age of 5 due to a dog attack, and after 20 years of speech therapy, hypnosis, and some unsuccessful voodoo, I still have it, albeit it is not as severe. I stopped fighting it because it was mentally and physically draining every single day. Since stuttering is so individualistic, there is no cookie cutter treatment. It's like buying shoes (as one of my podcast guest stated), you see what's out there, try some therapies, support groups, etc. I'm 53, and I still stutter; it is completely random and unpredictable, but it's still there. I practice speaking every day because it's a part of my acting exercises/ voiceovers. I am confident because I don't really pay attention to my stutter, I focus on living and being present because I wasted 35 years being in constant fear and survival mode. There's still a lot of research that needs to be done, but what I know is that we are fricken AWESOME 💪
