Work place question Hi, I’ve got a stutter and mild speech impediment (l’s,r’s). How do I navigate that in the workplace? It really hasn’t been that big of a deal till quite recently. I mean, I’ve even successfully worked in a call center. My current boss, however, seems to have focused on it. I either “talk too fast” or when I answer the phone “it sounds like a circus”. 99% percent of people that call have no problems understanding me and the remaining 1% having severe hearing problems and one guy from corporate. Answering the phones isn’t even my primary job, I’m only helping out there because we’re short staffed because of the current pandemic. Today I tried to explain to her that I in fact have a speech impediment and that may be why she hears what she hears, but she just brushed that off “no, I think you just talk too fast”. Except I don’t. I don’t even like talking. That’s why I’m in a job where I don’t talk frequently. I just want my boss and corporate to back off, because it really is a sore subject for me.
