It's a shame that she thinks that is acceptable. I had very poor experiences until I met my current Speech Pathologist two years ago. She actually listens to me, even if I am blocking. She told me "we will work on your speech, and find techniques that make speaking easier. But you have to work on accepting yourself as well". It has been helpful. We found that speaking into a mirror works for me. I tend to put a lot of pressure on sounds, so we work on that. She has even taken me out to shopping malls and had me go up and talk to people. That is called desensitization therapy. It helped me to learn that I can go up to people and talk, and be a functioning part of society, and most importantly, that it's okay to stutter. If we can beat the fear of stuttering, we can live with it happily. Or at least accept it. I am glad that you are wise enough to spot a sketchy therapist when you see one.
