Hello! Speech Therapist here! There seems to be some misinformation. Covert vs Overt stuttering has absolutely nothing to do with the type of dysfluency. If a person who stutters is covert it means that they are consciously trying to hide the fact they stutter. Some techniques are avoiding words, changing words and not talking at all. There is typically a lot of shame and negative emotions attached to the fact they stutter. If a person who stutters is overt it means they stutter openly Again, it has nothing to with having a stutter that is a repetition, prolongation or block.
