DARN. My stutter RETURNED and with a vengeance after 3 years of total fluency. It is mysterious because nothing has changed in my life. Perhaps it abated because of a medication I was prescribed which I had to discontinue due to insomnia. I discontinued it but remained fluent 3 years. I’m devastated. I never had speech therapy but I’m considering it. My stuttering is situational, total fluency in casual conversation( even phone or ordering) but very severe when having to say anything specific. I can no longer speak Spanish either. I’m thinking this is a neurological issue and the speech centers are involved because language is dependent on coordination of areas of the brain. I am elderly, 78f and other cognitive issues have arrived. MRI, neuropsyche exam, etc. stuttering is both psychological as well as physiological. I have zero social anxiety, only embarrassment when I strutter, no more Spanish anymore when I used to be very adept. Different regions of the brain are involved in translating and then coordinating speech. It’s not just the Broca and Wermicki regions of the brain.
