Stammering in retail So I've worked in a pizza restaurant for around 3 months now. I don't know how I've only just noticed this but here we go. At this restaurant in particular, I have to ask: Which size they want Which sauce they want to start with If they want cheese If they're sitting inside And if they would like any extra sides All of that with a stammer already is a challenge. Now, during all of this I've recently discovered that I do what I like to call a 'running stammer'. Where I block but instead of stopping, the letter rolls with me resulting in 5 seconds of just one sound rolling out my mouth, accompanied by facial ticks. What's been getting me down lately though is the look on customer's faces when I do this. They just smile. Now I know people smile when things are awkward, but in this context it makes me feel like they're smiling at the sounds I'm making. And honestly there's no worse feeling than thinking somebody else thinks you're a bloody weirdo because of the way you speak. *Especially* when you can't help it.
