Same here (although not Italian).. I will sometimes, if I feel a stutter come up, choose an English word or phrase that sounds "less native", if you will, because it's easier to get out. This helps my speech flow and is a good trade-off as I can hide behind the fact that it's essentially my third language. However, I cannot do this in my own language as it would just sound monstrously stupid if I didn't sound like a native speaker when I obviously am.
