After highschool I went to a college outside of the town I was raised in and where no one from my town goes. I’ll be a senior graduating in the coming spring. Stuttering when meeting people can be beyond nerve racking and stressful. I won’t lie, some people will look at you weird, and if it’s a social setting involving alcohol they may think you’re too drunk, but there will be people that are patient and understand and want to hear what you have to say. You’ll find those people, might not be the first ones you meet, but you will find them. In the aspect of dealing with stuttering in social situations, remain calm, breathe, remain eye contact and follow through with your words no matter how hard it is. It is very hard but you’ll build confidence and won’t even care if you stutter or not, this will even help you stutter less. Try to challenge yourself, talk to people, join clubs/sports/greek life, just put yourself out there. Better sooner than later trust me. Please do not just hide away and give up, this is what I did for too long and it makes everything a million times worse. Goodluck with college, have fun, be confident, and meet some new people. There are some really amazing people out there.
