Trick I Thought Of

Trick I Thought Of TLDR; You are crazy for making such long eye contact especially while stuttering or waiting for yourself to get through a stutter or block. Making eye contact while stuttering is a big sticking point for me. We as stutterers usually look away while we talk, or converse; personally I turn my head away to listen to the other person and make eye contact every few seconds or so to show though I am not looking at you that I am paying attention and listening and though I personally look at this as a somewhat admirable trait, as a stutterer it has it sets back. I do find it awkward to have entire conversations with no breaks in eye contact and I believe that to be a confidence and not-doing-it-more-often-leads-to-not-doing-it-at-all issue. I also like to not make eye contact so that I can think clearly when I do speak. I would say my stutter does not hold me back socially too bad except for women, and I can be chatty so I usually am talking. Working with a big group of people, some I have yet to speak to makes practicing easier. Anyway, so breaking social conventions we know that making eye contact for too long is looked at as, obscure and a dominance-type behavior. Disclaimer: I have said to exercise or go to the gym, lift weights and this will go hand-in-hand with this trick. Even though I stutter on and off I would like to stutter more while making eye contact so I can see what people’s reaction to my stutter is. I know what some are, we know what some are. Pretend that as when you make eye contact that the other person is the crazy or obscure one for not breaking eye contact. As I practice eye contact while stuttering I feel awkward, like the obscure one when I am really just practicing and working on myself. Or a trick I have been using is embracing the obscure, I am crazy for as long as I can have to practice this so let’s work on it now and all the time so it isn’t as bad in the future and I can work on other aspects of my speech lol. I am kinda crazy, but I’m working on it xD literally
