I also work in a field adjacent with SLP and have learned that most SLPs receive very little (or incorrect) training about what stuttering actually is. They think it’s just a random annoying flub that maybe you don’t even notice happening. Many have little understanding of the emotional realities involved. So how can we expect a cashier, person you just met at a bar, or Uncle Bob to understand? I bet many laughs come from ppl who aren’t even aware they are producing a nervous laugh. There’s one way to address the problem of trying to figure out why they are laughing…
