Same here re: the expanded vocabulary and working in journalism. I've always got a few synonyms "in the bank" during interviews or stressful situations, but this had a knock-on effect where I was terrified to say my name; there is no synonym for a name, so there was no way to escape a potential stuttering issue. It's funny how coping mechanisms can overlap, even though each person's stutter is totally unique. One thing that stuttering gave me is the perfect answer to the "what is something you've had to overcome?" question that pops up in job interviews all the time. Telling the story of how much work we have to put in to just communicate always impresses potential employers.
