It's because the energy you put in your speech is stronger than the stuttering/blocking impulse that shuts it. That's why we sometimes feel that we can overpower the block by pushing a bit harder, which unfortunately only leads to reinforcement of the negative pattern. Train your speech muscles by speaking slowly and articulating with energy but never use it to force through a block. At 30+ this is the hardest thing for me to unlearn.
