One time, I asked my former speech pathologist if it was okay for me to inform people I stuttered before a presentation. She said something along the lines of, "If that makes you feel comfortable, go for it. It's your voice, your choice." When I notified people, I noticed I was more relaxed and able to think through my presentation with a clearer mind. The weight of "unexpected reactions" was eliminated, and I was able to speak fairly fluent and anxiety free. As I get older, I've learned more to let people find out on their own. Either they don't notice or don't care. I've built my own coping techniques in case I get stuck on a word. I've gotten many, "No way, I couldn't tell you stuttered." That's bittersweet because now I think I'm binding all this negativity and frustration on something only I seem to notice. Hope this makes sense lol. I rambled but we don't always get to say what we're thinking!
