I typically do a disclosure statement. I think I do it for both the audience and myself. I want them to focus on WHAT I’m saying and not my stutter. I feel that if I don’t acknowledge an elephant in the room then that is all they will think about. I try to make my comment light and humorous, but i think it does still make people feel uncomfortable. I don’t know how to approach it differently. As an educator, it’s not necessarily about what the audience thinks, but I need to teach them something and tailor a message. Any thoughts out there?
