You definitely have to set boundaries for those around you. Whether they are friends, family, teachers, bosses or coworkers. Respectfully tell them if you are bothered by something they say or do. I remember my Dad used to subconsciously look away whenever I stuttered and it drove me crazy. Several coworkers or teachers would laugh, but most of the time once I approached them they didn't even realize I had a stutter. They thought I just fumbled over my words. It was addressed, we moved on, and it was a more comfortable environment for everyone from there on out.
