I Just stopped chasing fluency and started chasing being OK with my stutter. If you could stutter effortlessly, without facial ticks and closing your eyes, would you be OK with being a person who stutters? If you don’t already you should fill up your podcast feed with stuttering podcasts. Taking therapy as a kid is way different than taking it as an adult. What I noticed when I was in therapy as a teenager was there was no way I had the emotional maturity to really grasp the concepts of how my thinking and feelings affect my stutter. The fact that your stutter may close some doors and opportunities for you is not something you should focus on. Stop comparing yourself and your achievements to others. There’s a million ways and avenues you can take to find happiness. Just because you feel that the thing that makes others around you happy is unattainable for you doesn’t mean you will never find happiness. And if you do want to compare apples to apples, I’ve met a lot of people with severe stutters who are married with children.
