I don’t have any serious technical skills, so to make any relatively high salary takes speaking, whether on the phone or zoom. I work for a consulting firm that provides a high paying service. If I sound “less smart” or “disabled”, it immediately puts me at a disadvantage and I could lose a client. I know that may sound harsh, but there’s a subconscious mental map that the mind places people into. If you show up with a disability, your automatically placed into a “non-competition”/“less than” category. I want to make money, so I’ll hide my stutter until I no longer need to make money.
