I have the same issue, I always have. I don't mind speaking to someone in person near as much as I do on the phone. My stutter is always worse on the phone, and it seems a lot of stutterers have the same problem. As the other commenters suggested, explaining to your friends about your stutter can make the whole experience a whole lot easier. If they're your friends, they should be understanding. If they aren't understanding and make fun of you for it, as much as it sucks, they probably aren't the best friends. Plus, younger people just aren't as understanding yet because they're not mature yet, unfortunately. Some people do have good experiences with hearing themselves speak, such as using playback. I personally don't enjoy this, it's never helped my stutter, but it's worth a shot!
