A dating app for stutterers? After reading this subreddit for a few years, I’ve realized that some people have pretty extreme stutters that make things much harder than my own personal experience was growing up with a relatively mild stutter, and that the thought of finding a partner seems daunting for them. Given that, would it make sense to have an app like Tinder for stutterers? I got married way before Tinder (never used it) so maybe there’s a better example of a dating app, but I think you get the idea. Two people who stutter would probably be more patient with each other so they’d at least get an opportunity to get to know each other. And I do feel that a large percentage of stutterers are probably more compassionate than the average person and would make great lifelong partners. Another plus is that both parties might be more open to communicating via chat regularly, and see that as an acceptable alternative to speech under certain circumstances in daily life. I know that my texting skills reveal a completely different side of my personality that I can’t express verbally. And I can imagine texting being a lot less stressful for a lot of stutterers. Some possible negatives would be that there are way more male than female stutterers statistically. And this probably wouldn’t be a comfortable situation for certain types of personalities. Of course, this wouldn’t work for everybody, but I do think that it could be useful for some people if there were enough people on the platform. Also, speaking from experience, long distance relationships are completely viable in today’s world so one global app could open up a possible relationship for two people living in completely different parts of the world, greatly expanding the pool of potential partners. If it looks like there is any real interest in this idea, maybe a techie stutterer here could run with this idea and throw something together?
