I (40f) worked as a journalist from 14years old to 34. Now I’m in a strategic comms role and give tons of virtual talks and guest lectures. I stutter. Sometimes I’m more fluent than my average; sometimes I’m worse. If it’s really bad I may say “hey I stutter and today’s not a great day” and move on. I absolutely get down on it in my head at the end of a long day, and limit convos or phone chats to give my speech a break. I’ve had anxiety attacks ahead of interviews, felt like an idiot, turned bright red, been flustered, and had to take a moment to regroup - but I just power through, and take care of me later. I remember that more than likely the person who heard me is never gonna think about me or the stutter again. And if we do talk again then they already know. It’s been freeing to center for myself, that I’m not even a blip on someone’s road in life. You’ve got this!!
