When I block, my whole body becomes tense. I tend to kind of bow my head involuntarily. People break eye contact with me. I even twitch my arms or hands when I block for too long. Sometimes, the words slip out when I barely have any breath left; they slip out in a strained whisper. I've stuttered for about 15 years now. It's gotten better, but I still have to make a conscious effort to breathe and speak rhythmically when I'm approaching difficult words. Thankfully, that helps most of the time. Other times, I feel frozen and trapped mid-sentence, and I feel angry and embarrassed. I say all that to say you're not alone and keep talking about your experiences. It helps me and I hope it helps you. Keep being patient with yourself, and remember no one actually pays as much attention to your stutter as you do! Best of luck, friend.
