Any Stutterers here work at a call center or a job that requires constant phone conversations? I usually try to avoid applying for jobs that are based over the phone because of my issues with speech. I work as a bartender and find that I’ve mostly managed my stuttering when dealing with face to face conversations, but because of the pandemic, all bars are closed and I can no longer work. 2 of my friends for years have encouraged me to apply for the company that they work for, raving about the amazing pay and opportunities, telling me how good I would be at it because of my charisma from bartending. The issue is is that the job requires constant, inbound phone calls and my confidence in speaking over the phone is nowhere as good as speaking in person. Does anyone in this subreddit have a job where they have to talk on the phone constantly? I know that everyone’s stuttering/speech delays are different, but what is your experience? I had a phone interview today and it went well, despite the amount of blocks I had. But even that experience was emotionally taxing.
