I am a 78 Year Old retired Internist ! Do not give up your dream! My experience is that as time went on I got better and better with patients and most did not know that I stuttered. So with time, and earning a position in which YOU are the one in charge and in control, things will go your way. You can always opt for a non patient contact role, such as research, or pathology, anestheiology. But that wasn't me. If I didn't stutter, I would have been an extrovert because I loved dealing with people, explaining things and teaching .
