My husband has had it both ways. His bio mom is pretty terrible about his stutter. She used to tell him, “Don’t embarrass me” when they’d go out or she’d have someone over. She still seems to think he would stop if he just tried hard enough. 🙄 But his foster parents (he’s an adult now but they are still super close) are great. I had never been around anybody who stuttered before, and I pretty much learned how to be a good listener and an ally from watching them. They just treat it like no big deal, it’s just how he talks, and if anybody responds badly that’s a problem with them.
