Is “selective stuttering” a common case with people. I don’t know if there is a technical term for my situation but I call it “selective stuttering” I happen to only stutter to people I am close with but I never stutter in public, to acquaintances or just random people. For example, I can hardly push out a sentence in one go to my mum because I’m pretty close to her, I struggle so hard to speak with her but I don’t ever stutter to casual friends in school. My stuttering with someone also progresses depending on how close I become with them. Roommates are a good example. I initially don’t stutter with a new roommate but after a few months I begin to. This has been how I’ve experienced my stuttering since I was a kid, I find it quite amusing. I in fact use my stuttering to find out if I’m being comfortable with someone or if I’m liking them haha. I recently started stuttering with a new friend at work and it just hit me today so I basically realized I liked them as a person. Is this a common thing?
