Relaxation exercises are just one of the zillions of different stress reduction techniques. You can also try heavy exercise like swimming or boxing or something that really works your body hard. A friend of mine used to scream as loud as he could over and over for 15 minutes at a time while driving. Again, if one stress reduction technique doesn't work for you, try another. And another, until you find one that works. This whole suffering thing is pointless when there are many more options available.
