Absolutely. The amount of times I’ve been laughed at because they think I’m joking is ridiculous. I (unfortunately) had a phone job while I was in high school. Had to answer the phone and then direct their calls to who they were seeking in the building. Had to answer maybe 50 calls a day and start them out saying what company they called. Of course I stuttered on the company name each time. Whew… I got way too many laughs and that was probably the most insecure about my stutter I have ever felt in my entire life. Quit that job and told myself I’d never get a phone job again. When people laugh at me in person I say, “Are you okay?” with a concerned look. Makes THEM feel really insecure when I say that. And they should feel insecure, they are laughing at someone’s disability.
