The struggle of stuttering in a foreign language

The struggle of stuttering in a foreign language Hi everyone, I wanted to share something I’ve been struggling with lately. I find it much harder to manage my stutter when speaking a foreign language compared to my native language. I think the main reason is the lack of synonyms. In my native language (Dutch), I have a large enough vocabulary to quickly 'word-swap' or find a way around a block. In another language, I don't have that luxury yet, which makes me feel much more vulnerable. Because of this, going on holiday is always a bit stressful for me. It takes a while before I feel brave enough to really express myself. Since I am Dutch, I almost always have to rely on English when I'm abroad, which adds that extra layer of difficulty. Does anyone else feel like their stuttering gets worse when you can't rely on your full range of synonyms? How do you deal with the anxiety of speaking a foreign language on holiday?
