I think a good thing you can do for him is get excited about what he says, and compliment his questions. And use his comments in class to go on tangents in the lecture that you feel will help the class become more knowledgeable. And then thank him publicly for making the comment that led to the tangent. Because that will boost his confidence and also help the other students have an attitude that he contributes well to the class.
