My father singlehandedly turned my occasional stammer into a stutter. When the child starts speaking dont rush it, dont yell at it(i mean you are asking a question here so im guessing you wouldnt do that in the first place). Let it talk. Stutter memories are what makes stutters worse. My stutter is pretty mild and my worst memories dont come from school or friends or whatever. Its my own father yelling:"HOLY HELL JUST FUKN BREATHE, JUST TALK LIKE A HUMAN FUKN BEING,WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU......
