Slow first word

Slow first word I want to share this because it has genuinely been effective for me over the past two weeks. I regard myself as a mild stutterer, however I go through days where I get severe blocks and I struggle to speak two sentences together. What I’ve started doing is consciously force myself to speak the first word slowly, as if it’s the only word I intend to speak, and once I’m mid-word I decide to continue speaking the full sentence. When I record myself it doesn’t sound like my speech is slower than others around me, as if slowing down the first word functions mostly as a mental aid. Here’s an example: I want to say “When will the train come?” Without using the method I’d block hard on the initial ‘Wh’ and eventually I’ll blurt out “wenwillthtraincom?” When I’m consciously slowing down the first word, it comes out as “When – will the train come?” Has anyone else tried this method?
