So, I didn't really know what to expect as far as the listener's reaction was concerned. A few days ago, some representatives from the local NSA chapter came to speak to our class, and one man described a job interview during which the interviewer walked out when he started to stutter. My interaction was with someone in customer service (I was scheduling a vet appointment for my dog), so I assumed they'd be relatively friendly. And they were. But they tried to shorten the conversation (I have a pretty long last name, and as I was spelling it out, the person interrupted me and asked for my first name instead). Anyways, I felt awkward and embarrassed. I know my cheeks were flaming. And I knew the listener wanted to do her best to help me out and get on with her day. But I didn't experience any feelings of frustration or anger or shame (because of the fact that I was only pseudostuttering). It was a very limited experience, but it was a memorable one.
